1. About KDP-2¶
Klein’s optical design program was created by J. E. Klein. It was reverse engineered from “Hexagon” / “ACCOS-V” and has a similar command syntax and additional features. The user interface is a command line interface (cli) with some gui features. Both KDP-2 (Windows, iFort compiler), and its evolution Koko (Linux, Windows, gFortran compiler) are open sourced and Fortran77-based with some Fortran90.

“KDP-2 incorporates many features similar to those in other optical design codes such as HEXAGON (Hughes Aircraft/Raytheon), ZEMAX, OSLO ( the late-Douglas Sinclair), ACCOS-V and CODE-V (Optical Research Organization). KDP-2 is the way it is since the first optical design code I learned was an ACCOS-V variant called HEXAGON and used at Hughes Aircraft/Raytheon. That code gave that organization its competative advantage over many companies who only had early versions of CODE-V.
